The James Herriot water splash!

A small reminder of why you are driving to Swaledale! The ford is just up the road from Swale View Cottage and is a nice spot for a picnic. So when you are travelling here remember while it it is great to get out and walk there are some nice roads to discover some smashing places close by and further afield.

Directions - by car heading North from London

From A1 Northbound exit at Jct 51, head on the A684, at the Bedale roundabout continue on the A 684 towards Leyburn. Go into Leyburn and drive all the way up to the roundabout and for the best views head right towards Richmond. Then turn left after about 70m onto Grove Square which becomes Whipperdale Bank. Follow this to the cross roads about 2 miles out of Leyburn, go straight ahead towards Grinton /Reeth.

Head over the top where there are some great views and drop into Reeth, drive all the way through heading on the B6270 towards Gunnerside. Low Row is about 3 miles from Reeth.

When in Low Row drive past the pub, the Punch Bowl, elevated on the right and continue until you are almost through the village. Look for the brown sign to Hazel Brow Farm, turn sharp left there and park up where you can on the right. The house is the first on the left. You can pull up outside to unload but do not block the road as it is occasionally used for access.

Interestingly on the Wikipedia entry for Low Row the first image shows the entrance to Swale View on the right of the road beyond the telegraph pole.

Keep zooming in on the map and you will see us listed!

Travelling by Train?

The nearest train station is at Northallerton and is about 30 miles or an hour’s drive away. It’s a nice drive and there are usually taxis unless you are arriving at an odd time. Cost is about £45. Always allow a few extra minutes for slow moving vehicles and animals. There is parking for pick up and drop offs at the front and longer term parking as well round the back.

We can arrange pick up and drop off if you don’t have a car!

Reeth & area Flood Warning information here. Worth a check if its been raining a lot!
