THINGS TO DO IN SWALEDALE IN JANUARY

So here we are , its January 2020 and what can you get up to in Swaledale during the winter months?

Well read on and I will let you know. Of course there are the usual walks, albeit snow may become an issue and when I was up at Christmas the ground was pretty soaked through but most walks were ok. Make sure you dress appropriately and plan ahead. Check out the weather before you take on any walks that venture off the beaten path.

One of the great pleasures of being in the countryside is that the stars are way more visible due to the lack of light pollution. So if you are out and about late at night it is well worth stopping your car, safely, and taking a look upwards as the view you will get will be great. Assuming the clouds aren’t blocking your view!

Keep your eyes upwards!

More info next month on the Dark Skies project. But in the meantime take a safe look upwards and se how many stars you can see!

Often you can see over 2,000 stars, I have counted them all, honest, and the Milky Way, even the Northern lights if they are active. There are official tours, more of that later in February from The Dark Skies project but in the meantime the Reeth Informal Astronomy Group is meeting up on Monday 13th January. Check its going to take place, weather and all that may stop it being viable!

Getting married? First, second or third time? Well how about checking out the Tan Hill Wedding Showcase on the 26 of January between 12 noon and 6pm? As the first pub in the UK to have a wedding license there is a lot of experience so you can pop along, have some fizz and nibbles and discuss your requirements with the in house wedding team.

Pop along to the UK’s highest pub and see what they can do for your wedding? What a fun idea, were I the marrying type this would be right up my street!

A bit of a limited choice so far this month. I will add in more events when I find ones that may be of interest.

Lastly, I do believe Ramseys Fish and Chip van will be back up and running after a few faults developed with the fryers over Christmas. Next visit in Low Row is expected to be Friday 10th January. I missed out over Christmas which was really sad. Never mind, if you are around they are well worth checking out.
