Floods in Reeth, Grinton and Leyburn

It was a real shock to see the amount of destruction caused by the flash floods yesterday. I felt so helpless miles away just hoping that the rain would stop and rivers subside. There seems to be a lot of damage to the roads and peoples property. As far as I know no one was injured and I hope all livestock was able to be moved to safer ground.

But as this message from the Riverside Bed & Breakfast in BainBridge says please do not cancel any plans to visit the area. It is peak time of year and the whole of the local economy relies on visitors for valuable income.

Check first with your hotel, letting agent or home owner and I will post information on the inevitable road diversions as soon as they are known. Check out the Find Us page for all the latest information.

I know I am only new to the area but it both heartbreaking and heartening to see what has happened and how people have reacted with so many offers of help to get things back to normal.

Please do your bit by continuing to visit and enjoy all that Swaledale has to offer!
