Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival 2019

Now in its third year on September the 14h and 15th the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes opens up its doors to the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival.

Now being a lover of cheese, any ewes cheese is my absolute favourite, this is music to my ears and more importantly fuel for my taste buds and tummy.

There will be, of course, cheese tastings, live cookery demonstrations and of course lots of locally produced cheeses all accompanied by wine and lots of food options for you and the family.

There will be cheese and butter making demonstrations. I once bought a book on how to make cheese but it all seemed to be a lot of hard work and quite time consuming. So one left for the professionals I think. Although I still like the idea of a locally sourced and made Swale View Ewe’s cheese. One day maybe.

Bought earlier this year and it was delicious! (sorry in wrapper, only photo I had of it!)

Check out the masterclasses and ‘pairings‘ where you will find out how to match cheese with chocolate, gin, honey and charcuterie - I think that's a must see event!

The Wensleydale Creamery is always well worth a visit to both look at the museum and taste and buy so many varieties of cheese from the cafe and shop.

There are supporting events as well so over near Settle is the Long Churn Cheese event on the 14th September where you can try their hand made cheeses, sampel local ale and ewes milk ice cream - I have GOT to try that! Had some in France about 10 years ago in a fancy restaurant in Tourettes and it was amazing!

Another event is being held at the Cornhill Tearooms in Bainbridge where they will be serving a menu with local cheeses and chutneys and there will also be a specials board where you can choose tempting cheese quiches or soups.

The Courtyard Dairy over in Austwick is running a cheesemaking course on the 14th September. Booking essential and they run courses throughout the year.

A week after on the 21st September the Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre is hosting a butter making event between 10am and 4pm. Sounds lovely and you can taste and take home and there will be cheeses on offer as well.

And if you are looking to stock up on your local cheeses there is usually a van in Reeth for the Friday Farmers Market and Campbells in Leyburn have a smashing selection of all sorts of cheeses. And olives, and snacks - mmmm!

If you are hosting an event to celebrate the Cheese Festival let us know at hello@swaleview.com and we will feature you on the site.
