The King Head pub in Gunnerside is reopening on the 3rd of November. I would strongly urge people to support the pub by having a visit and a meal. The new leaseholders will do a smashing job I am sure but as the plan is for the pub to be bought and run as a community pub it does need support while this is being actioned. And afterwards as well once successfully folded back into the community.

I have had an even newer and bigger electric heater installed into the front living room to make sure its lovely and warm at all times. Probably because I am so soft having lived down south for so long now I felt it was important to make sure everyone visiting was as comfortable as possible. The central heating is good but if you crank it up the gas bottles run out at an alarming rate so the electric heaters provide great background heat, aiming for between 18 and 22 degrees depending on the time of day. And of course you can always light a fire as we have lots of coal available for you free of charge as part of your stay. Toasty!

Fire burning brightly

Do get the multi fuel burner going, we have loads of coal available for you and you can get logs in Reeth (at the petrol garage) or Leyburn, they look pretty but aren’t as effective!

The ‘old’ heater from the front room will be relocated to the hallway, again as background heating, once I have figured logistics on the various mirrors that need to be moved to accommodate it. This will be done by Christmas 2019 assuming I am handy enough to do all of this and I can get a new smaller mirror ordered for the hallway.

We also added a section on ‘The Barn at Swale View’ to this site as we look to develop that in the coming months to provide additional accommodation for our guests.

The hottest new book launch is ‘Wild about Weeds’ by Jack Wallington available now. His family live in Reeth so go and buy a copy. I will leave my copy for you to peruse in Swale View.

Don’t forget fireworks night on the 5th of November on Reeth green from 7pm onwards. Fun for all the family I am assured.

On Sunday the 10th of November there will be a Remembrance Day parade from Reeth to Grinton at 1.30pm for those who wish to pay their respects.

Looking ahead, as I am, on the 22nd of December there is Christmas Carols around the Christmas tree at 8pm on Reeth Green, looking forward to that one! I am hoping my bike will be up in Swale View so I can cycle over from Low Row and have a pint as well. Big chat now, let’s wait and see what the weather is like!

That’s the latest roundup from Swale View, hope it’s of interest, if nothing else it serves as a reminder for me to sort out the mirrors and radiator and get my bike relocated to Swale View.
